Joseph Nicephore Niepce was born in France on March 7, 1765. He is credited with creating the first permanent photograph in 1826. His photo (right), View from the Window at Le Gras, was taken using a camera obscura. The process to create this image image was long, it needed to be exposed for several hours. Joseph Nicephore Niepce experimented with many forms of photography during his lifetime including lithogrphy, which led him to attempt to take a photo using a camera obscura. He died on June 5, 1833 at the age of 68.
